An investigative journalist in Russia has been freed after a significant public outcry. Ivan Golunov cried as he was freed yesterday, and still has public support. According to the police, there was insufficient evidence to prosecute Golunov, after looking at the forensic, biological, fingerprinting and genetic tests.
It has been asked of Vladimir Putin that two high-ranking workers should be dismissed following this case.
Golunov has been involved in several risky investigative journalism missions. In this case, it is alleged that the drugs were planted on him in an attempt to frame him. He has also been involved in reporting on loan shark businesses, high costs of construction projects in Moscow, and the censorship of journalists.
Most people are glad that Golunov has been freed and see this is a sign that the Russian government is not entirely oppressive.
